Matt Fielding

Matt is based in Howells’ Birmingham office where he co-leads a design studio. His work has largely been focused on residential-led mixed-use urban regeneration projects which are helping to transform Birmingham city centre. These include Kent Street Baths, East-side Locks and Makers Yard.

In addition, Matt worked on Warner’s Fields, a scheme that provides homes around a revitalised river corridor within the Rea Valley Urban Quarter of Digbeth. This project also involved a wider masterplan for the regeneration of the area that seeks to celebrate the rich industrial heritage of the site whilst also creating a new green neighbourhood near the centre of Birmingham.

He was the project lead for Wellington Square (Lisbon Court), Leeds which included a pair of commercial office buildings and a 45 storey landmark hexagonal tower which forms an integral part of the new vision for the west-end of Leeds city centre.

Outside of Howells, Matt has a keen interest in architecture and can regularly be found exploring the architecture of European cities, and North America including Chicago and New York where he recently went on tours of the early skyscrapers.

Matt graduated with BArch, MArch and PGCert from the University of Nottingham. For several years he was a visiting tutor/critic on the undergraduate programme and he still regularly returns for the end of year show and prize giving.
