Reinhold Schmaderer

Reinhold was born in Germany and studied in Stuttgart before graduating from architectural school in Berlin. He set up Howells’ first London studio in 2002 and since then he has overseen the design of every project in that office, running weekly design review sessions and working with our clients and collaborators to deliver on their collective visions.

Having lived in London for more than 25 years, Reinhold has a deep understanding of his adopted city. His residential-led masterplans, have an emphasis on repairing urban fabric, redeveloping brownfield sites, and developing communities. He believes that ambitious masterplanning should be at the heart of any good development, and that it is essential for designers and clients to understand the local context so they can deliver projects that seamlessly integrate existing and new communities, so that people can enjoy a sense of place in their slice of London.

Reinhold is also passionate about sustainability and champions our Howells ‘CLEAN’ manifesto that ensures we minimise environmental impact in all our projects. His adaptable and keen approach has seen him work on a range of schemes, from the biophilic inspired Wardian London to the Crown Estate’s Savill Building, a visitor centre in Windsor Great Park that was shortlisted for the RIBA Stirling Prize.
