Social Value 2023
Our commitment to Social Value at Howells is ingrained in our culture. It is driven by many factors, including our passion for the design profession and our wish to inspire the next generation to join us on this creative journey. But also by our wish to support our clients and the communities we work in so they can create places that improve wellbeing, meet their individual needs, and most importantly, deliver meaningful social value that lasts the lifetime of a project.
We have reflected on all the activities we have been fortunate to be involved in during 2023, and some particular highlights include:
- The annual Summer School for secondary school pupils who last year designed pavilions for the new Smithfield Birmingham for clients Lendlease and Birmingham City Council
- Our London Festival of Architecture Open Studio explored how the narrative behind our projects could shift and how the theme ‘in common’ is embedded in our projects
- The RIBA Young Person Youth Design Day with Birmingham City Council got more children inspired by the regeneration of their city
- Organising and hosting the annual Chicken Run, which raised over £15k for the Architects Benevolent Society
- The Smarty Pants charity quiz night raised over £3k for our Charity of the Year, Smart Works
